Start a war with China, remember Chinese people will be completely united and take any hardships that will come very quickly if that happens, the Americans will break apart very quickly due to a very different culture and demographics makeup. In a long war the USA cannot force China into a defeat, same goes for the trade war, it only forces China to upgrade and tweak their own economy much faster, while it did not affect day to day life of ordinary people who still see increases to standard of living.
